Double Page Spread

The main focal point of the double page spread is the manipulated imagery. The eye level wide shot was manipulated within the publication photo shop, I used the effects of hard light focus, and the increase of the contrast to create the bold photo. The black and white colour scheme allows the seriousness and the concentration of death to contrast against the white colouring, the purity softens the imagery, and allows it to juxtaposition to create mystery. The imagery alone illustrates a strong dominance, and the artist being stood alone emphasises independence.

The second image features the artist standing alone again, secondly evidencing the independence and dominating representation the magazine wanted to create. The bird’s eye view photography introduces the use of Mise en scene, the pearls wrapped around the artist’s neck portray the effect of elegance and expense as well as the notes splashed around her body, this imitates a strong sex appeal, which is evidenced as the model is lying down. The use of playing cards imitates a game, which illustrates a fun loving personality as well as evidencing the love/ hate, win all or nothing effect. The use of newspapers emphasizes on the black and white colour scheme, as well as enhancing the importance and seriousness. The last factors of Mise en scene used are the flowers around the wrist, these highlight the wild sense of personality and a young artist blossoming into maturity.

Another focal point used within the double page spread is the manipulated masthead; the masthead was created on dafont, the same font which has been used for each individual title creating a house font and instant recognition. The disorientated capitals emphasise excitement and the seriousness of the music magazine. The target audience I feel are students and young adults aged seventeen up to the age of late twenties.
